♦Pagers & Cell phones are good to have for emergencies, but
don't talk on the phone while driving. It is now illegal to use any hand held device while driving in New Jersey.
♦Keep your vehicle well maintained. Check
oil and gas, but if you have a breakdown, be sure to move as far as you can off the roadway.
♦Keep an emergency kit in your car. Include blanket, bottled
water, flashlight, maps, white towel to hang on door to show repair needed
♦Keep your doors locked while driving
and whenever you leave the car (even for a moment)
♦Keep your windshield clean, make sure your
fluids are filled and clean the inside regularly
♦Wear your seatbelts & require all passengers to wear one also!
It's the law.
♦Always watch for pedestrians, especially in
residential neighborhoods. Children may run into the roadway between cars.
♦Pay attention to the time, don't rush...If you have a place
to be (or curfew to get home), plan for additional time---speeding can be disasterous.
♦If you are directed to stop by the police, move to a safe spot off
the road. Keep your hands on the steering wheel until requested for your drivers license, registration & ID card.
Tell the officer where they are and that you are getting them. Be polite.
